okay. sorry. but does anyone–ANYONE–love makeup? well, i certainly do. i also love art and photography.

and i lust after the black lip gloss trend.

i’ve always found black-glossed lips beyond sexy. not exactly something to go with your work attire, but wonderful in an artistic photoshoot.

let’s mention the two most notable, Lancome’s Piha Black/Piha Red and YSL Pur Gloss in Black.

i first learned of the Piha set in an issue of Vogue, which featured an interview with Aaron de Mey, Lancome’s artistic director. the lipstick-lip gloss duo is inspired, respectively, by Christian Louboutin shoes’ soles and the sands of Piha, New Zealand’s beaches. the lipstick is a vibrant red that mimicks the trademark bottom of the Frenchman’s shoes. the gloss is shimmery, much like sand, and can be layered over the lipstick to create an interestingly sexy effect, or worn alone, or left out of the equation entirely (but with the trend toward black, who would do such a thing??). the set actually goes on sale in November in Bloomingdale’s, i believe.

now, YSL’s gloss–which was already sold out, before shipment had even commenced–is supposedly the deepest plum when layered fully, and more of an aubergine when the bare minimum is applied (not that i would know; i obviously have never seen it in real life). it was designed especially for the Yves Saint Laurent runway to be paired with short, black wigs and dark, severe designs. one look at the models asks, ”how did the models walk in those seven-inch stiletto boots with their eyes covered like that?” but there is no question that the gloss is delicious.

 

another cosmetics company catching onto the trend is MAC. the products used for the look linked seem to have either come back from the dead, were made available to the public, or were created just for this trend. (Yes, that black lipmix is on my wishlist, in case either of the above turns out to be too expensive.)
